Consents Coordinator - Parental Leave Cover

Environment Southland's Consents Team plays a critical role in managing how Southland's natural resources are used and protected. We're looking for an organised, capable and people‑focused Consents Coordinator to support the delivery of high‑quality resource consent services. This is a 12-month fixed-term role to cover parental leave, ending on or around 30 May 2027.

This is a busy, varied administrative and coordination role where accuracy, initiative and strong communication skills really matter. You'll be working closely with consent officers, external consultants, applicants and the wider community to keep statutory processes moving efficiently and lawfully.

About the role

As Consents Coordinator, you will provide day‑to‑day administrative and coordination support to the Consents Team, including:

  • Administering, and coordinating the processing of resource consents under the Resource Management Act 1991
  • Recording and maintaining consent and processing data in Council systems
  • Supporting notified applications and organising resource consent hearings, including logistics, communication and documentation
  • Providing clear, accurate information to applicants, consent holders and the public
  • Supporting continuous improvement of consent administration processes

This role suits someone who enjoys juggling priorities, pays close attention to detail, and is comfortable working with legislation, deadlines and a wide range of stakeholders.

What we're looking for

We're keen to hear from people who can demonstrate:

  • Experience in an administrative, coordination or regulatory environments
  • A working knowledge (or strong interest in developing knowledge) of the Resource Management Act 1991
  • High levels of accuracy, organisation and time management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence dealing with customers and managing sensitive or complex situations
  • The ability to work independently while also being a strong team player
  • Solid computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and general database use

We may require testing to be completed relating to Word / Excel / Windows / Business Correspondence.

An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $71,370 - $76,000
