ABOUT THE ROLE – NGĀ ĀHUATANGA O TE TŪRANGA

This is a brand-new opportunity created to engage with, support, and develop the Northern Taupō district & its communities. 

Our Community Engagement Advisor - Northern Taupō District will be a local ambassador, building collaborative relationships and driving community-led planning to help communities to get the tools they need to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Through the development of strong relationships with whanau, hapū, iwi, community groups, and other stakeholders, this role will work as a connector across the community & neighbouring communities, facilitating positive outcomes for all.

Enhanced engagement and community development will be achieved through:

  • Creating bespoke strategies to facilitate engagement with Council
  • Developing and maintaining processes to ensure efficient two-way information flow through community groups and local stakeholders
  • Using relationships to develop community-led plans and initiatives
  • Connecting community groups and organisations to work together to achieve common goals.
  • Assisting community members to help address and resolve their concerns through appropriate channels.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR - KEI TE KIMI  MĀTOU I TĒNEI MOMO TANGATA

We are looking for someone who shares our passion for the Taupō District, in particular the Northern Taupō part of our rohe. You will have a strong understanding of tikanga Māori and a passion for building and growing relationships with community members from the Mangakino, Atiamuri, Kinloch, Broadlands, and rural areas. 

You will be a natural people-person, with outstanding communication skills and the ability to develop meaningful, collaborative relationships. You will thrive on working in partnership with communities to develop strategic solutions to solve their challenges. To thrive in this role, you will:

  • Have sound understanding of the legislation relevant to Local Government
  • Have developed existing contacts/relationships across the Northern Taupō district
  • Have a strong knowledge of tikanga and kawa to ensure council is supporting whānau, hapu, and iwi as a good Treaty partner
  • Be a good listener and able to effectively manage conflict
  • Be positive & focused on continuous improvement
