Community & Economic Development Manager

The Opportunity
We’re looking for someone energetic, community-minded, and people-focused to lead our Community & Economic Development team. You’ll bring a sense of fun, a strong service ethic, and a passion for helping people of all ages thrive in the Gore District.
This is a senior role responsible for delivering initiatives across community wellbeing, employment pathways, economic development, and district-wide events. The position leads a team of five and works closely with local, national, and international stakeholders to support community outcomes and economic growth.
In addition to the above you will:
- Lead and deliver community development initiatives that ensure Gore is a welcoming and inclusive district.
- Drive key economic development projects that help attract businesses, grow housing, and support tourism.
- Support young people into employment by finding opportunities and walking alongside them on their journey.
- Develop and support programmes that help older people stay active, connected, and living well.
- Assist in planning and delivering Council events such as the Santa Parade and the On the Fly Mataura River Festival.
- Undertake administrative tasks including data entry, filing, and record management.
- Work occasional weekends and evenings as required to support community and economic development activities.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Strong communication, customer service, and relationship‑building skills.
- Solid planning, coordination, and organisational abilities.
- Competence across core IT systems and digital tools.
- Experience working with community groups, businesses, or public sector partners.
- A positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to help people from all walks of life.
- The right to live and work in New Zealand.
