Communication Advisor


Waipā District Council is seeking an experienced Communication Advisor to join our collaborative Communication Team on a fixed-term basis covering parental leave (full-time until early 2027). This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a portfolio and support some of Council’s key projects and priorities. About the role

You’ll play a central role in helping keep Waipā informed, involved, and connected. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering clear, timely, and engaging communications across multiple channels
  • Contributing to strategic communications and engagement plans
  • Building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, elected members, partners, and the community
  • Supporting consultation, engagement, and reputation management activities
  • Contributing to best practice and consistency across the organisation

Who we’re looking for

You are an experienced communications professional who enjoys variety, delivery, and collaboration. You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in a communications or engagement role
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to roll up your sleeves
  • Confidence working with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Creativity, curiosity, and a genuine interest in community engagement

Experience with digital channels and social media is important. Local government experience is an advantage.

Location: Primarily Te Awamutu, with flexibility to work from Cambridge office and from home by arrangement.
