Chief Executive
- An outstanding leadership opportunity
- Future-focus
- Thriving region
The Murihiku Southland region is experiencing growth, with a positive economic outlook underpinned by its large and thriving primary industry sector and increasing diversification, driven by investment in renewable energy, growing aquaculture, and tourism sectors. Our region has a strong community backbone, supporting our people and diverse communities. Southland is also stunningly beautiful, encompassing areas such as the Catlins, Rakiura Stewart Island and Milford Sound.
Environment Southland is seeking its next Chief Executive to lead a large workforce focused on achieving resilience and positive outcomes for land, water, air and coastal resources, in partnership with the community. The Chief Executive will provide stability, continuity of service delivery and transitional support during a period of local government and regulatory reform. This is a pivotal role for Southland’s future, requiring an experienced leader who knows their way around all forms of government and industry.
Strong governance advisory capability (operating with integrity, sound judgment, and commercial and financial acumen) is required to navigate the current dynamic environment. Political judgment and situational awareness in a context of competing expectations are essential, as is the ability to simultaneously support and meet the needs of governance, our iwi partners, stakeholders, central government, the local and regional government sector, staff and the community. You will be a passionate, empowering and supportive leader, with a high-trust approach.
This role offers the opportunity to steward a key regional organisation, empowering both its staff and the community to understand and deliver positive, enduring outcomes for Southland and its people.
