Chief Executive Officer
The Role:
Reporting to the Mayor and Councillors, the Chief Executive provides strategic leadership and efficient management for all aspects of Council’s activity. This includes the enhancement of organisational capability, and further development of close relationships with regional stakeholders, the community, mana whenua, business and central government. The development of strategies that achieve long-term goals and provide for economic growth, strengthen current district industries, and support robust financial management practices are key to the position.
About Western Bay of Plenty District Council:
One of New Zealand’s fastest growing provincial districts, Western Bay of Plenty District Council (WBOPDC) stretches from Waihi Beach to Otamarakau. The area covers 212,000 hectares of coastal, rural and urban areas and supports a population of approximately 56,600 people. Key industries include agriculture, forestry and fishing.
With total operating revenue of over $80 million and 270 FTE staff, WBOPDC activities cover a wide range of regulatory and planning, network infrastructure services and community facilities. The Council has a strong vision ofimplementing plans that deliver social, cultural, environmental and economic progress across the Western Bay of Plenty District by working closely and partnering with local authorities in the region, the community, Iwi and key stakeholders.
The Candidate:
Preferred candidates will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive track record of successful strategic leadership in a complex stakeholder setting. An inspirational people leader, political acuity, an open and collaborative style, and a passion for the future of the local government are other key qualities sought. A strong appreciation of and experience in the role that technology can play in supporting an efficient and productive workplace are also critical to the position. Senior experience within local or central government is preferred but not essential. Knowledge of issues related to public infrastructure, and community engagement will be important for success in this role.
