CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
- Exceptional leadership opportunity
- Tauranga
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council Toi Moana (BOPRC) is the caretaker/kaitiaki tasked with leading the sustainable management of the region’s natural resources, working closely with six territorial authorities to safeguard the environment now and into the future. BOPRC is responsible for land, air and water, as well as maritime safety, coordinating response to natural disasters, planning for climate change and ensuring that land and public transport are fit for purpose to support the dynamic growth of this regional community. There are five key community outcomes:
- A healthy environment
- Future ready communities
- Connected and enabled communities
- Sustainable development
- The pursuit of excellence.
With a lifestyle that is second to none and abundant employment opportunities, the Bay of Plenty is one of Aotearoa’s top destinations for people to live, work and play which has resulted in significant population growth in recent years and a richly diverse cultural dynamic. The Bay of Plenty has the largest number of Iwi of any region in Aotearoa where the Māori economy is an increasingly important contributor to the regional economy and where the region as a whole consistently performs well across a number of economic indicators.
Regarded as an innovative regional leader, BOPRC is now looking for a talented and visionary CEO who has the requisite skills and experience to lead this high performing organisation successfully into the future where climate change, the future of work and local government reform all present uncertainty and challenge in a complex and volatile landscape. A strong spirit of service embodies the culture of the organisation and there is an unwavering commitment to the communities it serves which is reflected in the high levels of engagement across its diverse and talented workforce.
We are looking for an experienced leader, well versed in the nuances and complexities of local and central government, who can be a resolute and compelling ambassador for the Bay of Plenty, working closely with key stakeholders to implement workable policy solutions at a local level which align with central government strategies. More than just a job, this role requires a wholehearted duty of care and accountability for environmental, cultural and fiscal wellbeing in the community.
You will be a strategic and visionary thinker with the intellectual agility to operate effectively at a macro and micro level simultaneously. A positive influencer at both a local and national level, you will have a growth mindset with the energy and drive to champion and deliver ongoing change as the political, economic and social horizons continue to evolve at speed across Aotearoa. Politically and commercially astute, you are an open and articulate communicator with a consultative and collaborative approach, able to build sustainable and trusted partnerships with multiple stakeholders at all levels. You have the courage and resilience to challenge where needed as you work with genuine best intent to achieve effective and efficient outcomes which benefit all, so that the regional community is truly thriving together- mo te taiao, mo nga tangata.
If you believe you can provide exceptional leadership to BOPRC in this pivotal and highly rewarding role, we would love to hear from you. Please be advised that the incumbent is applying for the role.
Please contact Julia Stones on 0220 347 066 or email at hello@jsassociates.co.nz if you would like additional information or have any queries. If you are applying for the role, please provide a cover letter and CV to support your application. Applications close at 5pm on Friday 24 January 2025.
