Chief Alcohol Licensing Inspector
Are you passionate about regulatory compliance and keen to make a positive impact in your community? Whanganui District Council is looking for a Chief Alcohol Licensing Inspector to join our dynamic Regulatory Compliance team.
In this role, you will assess and investigate alcohol licensing and manager certificate applications while conducting inspections of licensed premises to ensure compliance, including controlled purchase operations and night monitoring.
You will work closely with the District Licensing Committee (DLC) and contribute to the implementation and enforcement of the Sale of Alcohol Act and the Local Alcohol Policy (LAP).
You will be responsible for preparing and presenting matters for the consideration of the DLC and for court proceedings.
You will also be responsible for private, pool, and drinking water sampling on a rostered basis to meet relevant standards.
We are looking for someone who is a confident communicator, capable of handling difficult situations with ease.
Strong customer service and time management skills, along with adaptability and the ability to work under pressure, strong attention to detail will be essential for success in this role.
To be eligible, you must hold a full New Zealand driver's licence and have a solid understanding of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.
Ideally, you will have experience in investigation, monitoring, and reporting, as well as knowledge of regulatory frameworks and prevention-based compliance strategies.
You should be comfortable working outside normal business hours for proactive monitoring, including weekends and public holidays when required for drinking water sampling.
A relevant tertiary qualification in alcohol licensing or regulatory compliance would be an advantage. We need someone who has a proactive attitude toward assisting and educating customers into compliance, along with a high level of integrity and the ability to remain impartial. Applicants must also be eligible to work in New Zealand.
Successful candidates will undergo a Ministry of Justice criminal check, and employment is subject to a satisfactory police record in line with Council's requirements.
