CAD Drafter / Engineering Technician / Senior Engineering Technician (3 Waters)


  • Support the design of water, wastewater & stormwater projects
  • Assist with tendering & construction support for critical infrastructure
  • Help shape Wellington Water design standards and influence project outcomes

About the Role:

This role offers a hands-on, career-developing opportunity to contribute to Wellington’s water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. Whether you’re an experienced senior technician or an intermediate technician, you will support the full project lifecycle—from assisting with concept and detailed design through construction, quality assurance, and handover.

You’ll work closely with project managers, operations teams, councils, and contractors to support the delivery of high-quality, sustainable infrastructure, and help strengthen design standards, support construction delivery, and embed continuous improvement across Wellington Water’s practices.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver CAD drawings, work plans & reports for renewals, upgrades, and capital projects
  • Prepare fee estimates, work plans, and resource allocation
  • Prepare tender and contract documentation and support evaluation processes
  • Act as Assistant Engineer’s Representative for MSQA

About You

We are looking for proactive, technically capable, and collaborative engineering technicians who thrive on solving real-world water infrastructure challenges.

Ideal Candidate:

  • A relevant engineering qualification in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical
  • 3–10+ years’ experience supporting the delivery or design of water infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of three waters design, construction, and maintenance standards
  • AutoCAD skills required, Civil 3D essential for senior technicians, desirable for intermediate
  • Experience in project, contract, and financial management
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
