Building Technical Officer - Processing


This is an integral role within our Building Assurance team, responsible for assessment and processing of building consent applications, ensuring that building consent processes meet New Zealand's Building Code so our communities' buildings are safe, healthy and durable.

We understand that the building consents process can be complicated so you'll often be required to seek input from other areas of council such as planning, engineering services and natural hazards teams while also dealing with related building consent enquiries from our customers. You will ideally possess a sound working knowledge of relevant building statutes, regulations and standards…or as a minimum will already be working in the wider building industry with a keenness to pursue a new career opportunity.

You will also be someone who is committed to quality customer service, a team player with strong communication skills, able to confidently provide technical building advice as a Duty Building Officer. These attributes will be complemented with a high degree of digital literacy and attention to detail. If you are excited by learning, we can also offer extensive professional building competency training.
