Building Surveyor Commercial Processing

About the role:

Our commercial team are responsible for undertaking the building consent authority functions under the Building Act in relation to commercial and industrial projects. Working with our customers you will ensure buildings in Selwyn are safe and fit for purpose for our growing community.

You will work as part of our close-knit team to deliver a superior end to end customer experience.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Customer engagement through pre application meetings
• Processing building consent application to ensure they comply with the NZ Building Code
• Compiling and issuing compliance schedules and compliance schedule statements
• Making decisions to grant or refuse commercial applications
• Making lapse and extension decisions

About you:

Our ideal candidate will be calm, honest and approachable with relevant BCA experience enabling you to hit the ground running. You are detail oriented with the ability to see the big picture when delivering work. You'll be a natural problem solver who can analyse information and make rational judgements and will hold a commercial processing competency. 

You will also have:

• A NZ Diploma in Building Surveying (Level 6) or equivalent NZ qualification.
• Understanding and application of the Building Act, Regulations, Building Code, Standards, and the consent process.
• Ability to make technical decisions using sound judgement, risk analysis and research.
• High level digital literacy and experience in a range of software applications.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Time management.
• Current Class 1 drivers licence.
