Building Review Officer

About this role:
We're on the lookout for a Building Review Officer to become a key team player within our Building Review team. Nestled in one of New Zealand's fastest-growing districts, this is your chance to step into a role that promises both challenge and growth.
In this role, you will be responsible for assessing building consent applications to ensure compliance with the Building Act, Building Code, and relevant regulations. You'll work closely with internal and external customers and other council teams to provide expert advice and ensure high-quality outcomes for our community.
What I do?
- Review and process building consent applications in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Working and supporting customers by providing technical advice and guidance to meet the required standards for all legislation and legal requirements.
- Participate in audits and contribute to maintaining Building Consent Authority accreditation.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Understand and address risks associated with building consents and work proactively with the Building Review Team Leader to mitigate these risks.
- Keep up to date with the latest changes in the construction sector.
What I bring?
- Minimum of 5 years experience of on-job experience within the NZ building industry.
- NZ Diploma in Building Control Surveying (Level 6) or equivalent that meets Regulation 18 in terms of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
- RES 3 and COM 1 competency as per the National Building Consent Authority Competency Assessment System.
- Proven knowledge and experience working with the Building Act 2004, Building Code and Building Regulations 2006.
- Great people skills to deal professionally with customers/stakeholders and while actively problem-solving.
- A commitment to providing excellent customer service with a community mindset.
- A sharp eye for detail - can read building plans effortlessly.

Hours of work: 40 hours per week
