Building Consent Processor

We’re looking for a Building Consent Processor to join our team and help deliver safe, compliant building outcomes across the Waipā District.

About the role

You’ll process building consents using Objective Build, ensuring all work complies with the Building Act, Regulations, and Building Code. Your portfolio will include new builds and alterations across a wide range of complexity, from small residential projects through to larger commercial developments. You’ll apply sound technical judgement and attention to detail to make clear, risk-based decisions.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) role, primarily based in Te Awamutu, with flexibility to work from Cambridge and hybrid work-from-home options.

About you

You’re an experienced Building Consent Processor in NZ local government with a strong, practical understanding of the Building Act, Building Code, and related building, plumbing, and drainage regulations. You’re confident managing your workload, making well-reasoned decisions, and working across a range of project complexities.

You communicate clearly and build positive working relationships, while also being comfortable navigating challenging conversations where needed to work through differing views and to guide applicants toward compliant outcomes.

You’ll hold (or be working towards) a Regulation 18 qualification and have competency in Residential 1–3 processing (Commercial experience is a bonus). Good IT skills round out the picture, with previous experience using Objective Build a plus!

What we offer

You’ll join a supportive, collaborative council team with a focus on learning and continuous improvement. We offer flexible working, professional development (including study support), and opportunities to grow your career, along with competitive local government benefits such as health & life insurance, retail discounts, subsidised fitness memberships, and additional leave over Christmas/New Year.

If this sounds like the kind of role where you’d thrive, we’d love to hear from you.
