About the Role

Reporting to the Asset Planning Manager, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Council’s asset management improvement journey. Your work will ensure that our public infrastructure assets are planned and managed to deliver long-term, sustainable outcomes. This position combines technical expertise with collaboration, as you work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to align operations with best-practice asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive Asset Management Plans (AMPs)
  • Analyse asset data and provide insights to support infrastructure planning
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to long-term capital planning and asset creation programmes

About you

We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Asset Planner who thrives on turning data into smart decisions and building strong relationships. You’ll bring a positive, team-focused approach and a passion for delivering high-quality outcomes that make a real difference for our communities.

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, public infrastructure asset management, or a related field
  • Proven experience in developing Asset Management Plans (AMPs) for public infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of long-term capital planning and asset creation programmes
  • Hands-on experience in asset data capture and management, particularly for infrastructure assets
  • Understanding of asset capitalisation processes
  • Proficiency in asset management systems and data analysis tools
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills to achieve collaborative, win–win outcomes
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capability

Desirable

  • Experience with GIS platforms and spatial data analysis
  • Familiarity with predictive modelling and lifecycle costing
  • Knowledge of New Zealand local government asset management frameworks
  • Exposure to project management methodologies
  • Ability to champion innovation and continuous improvement in asset planning
