Sustainable transport champion needed: Team Leader Travel Choice

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative individual to lead the Travel Choice Team within Greater Wellington’s Regional Transport Department. This is a small team of dedicated advisors and coordinators who deliver travel demand management and road safety programmes aimed at increasing the uptake and awareness of walking, cycling and public transport across the region.

We need a personable individual with an aptitude for people leadership and a personal style that empowers, motivates and encourages staff to perform at their best.


The successful applicant will have:

  • Experience in travel demand management

  • Graduate degree in transport or planning, or related field

  • Clear, articulate communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to target communications to the audience at hand

  • Management and leadership experience

  • Collaborative working style

  • Project management experience

  • Politically savvy

  • Strong initiative and a “can do” attitude

  • Proven ability to build and maintain working relationships with stakeholders

  • Experience in running events would be an advantage

  • Well defined analytical and problem solving skills
