Senior Rates Technical Officer

Our busy Rates team is set up to collect rates which is an integral part of the Council's income stream to support the daily operation and ongoing rejuvenation of our city. We deal with $630 million each year, so you'll need a keen eye for detail and be solution focused to make sure our system is fit for purpose.

This role will be the link between the transactional rates team and the technical SAP team, working closely across the business with employees in IT to resolve technical issues that occur on an ongoing basis. We'll be honest with you, this role can be stressful and there are some pressure points. But, if you're level-headed, upbeat, have a great sense of humour and are optimistic then these challenges should be seen as an opportunity to do things better.

You'll be an enabler when it comes to troubleshooting the technical difficulties that the team face. Experience using SAP is essential as you'll need to be comfortable navigating through the system while being patient and having the end user in mind. Initially, there will be a lot of updates and testing that's required, so cross collaboration and relationship building skills will help you work with other teams to implement new systems.

We would love you to come with central government or local government experience or a background in a large organisation that has complexities to work through. Knowledge of the rating legislation (Rating Act 2002) is desirable. Attention to detail, a passion for quality software, and excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills are a must, along with a strong sense of responsibility to do the right thing for the citizens of Christchurch.
