Horizons Regional Council manages the natural and physical resources of the Manawatu – Wanganui Region. A crucial part of the role is ensuring natural resources are used in a sustainable manner. Our Consents Team is fundamental to achieving this goal.
We have an opportunity for Senior Consents Planner to be a part of our innovative, dynamic and high achieving team based in Palmerston North. In this role you will have direct interaction with clients to give clear consenting advice as well as including the preparation of, or processing of resource consent applications. As a Senior Consents Planner your experience will include processing and managing resource consents of a more technical and complex nature, finding pragmatic solutions to issues within a regulatory framework, and mentoring junior staff .
Our ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is customer and outcome focussed. In addition to having a sound understanding of the resource consents process your excellent verbal and written communication skills will be supported in your proven ability to influence, persuade and guide clients through complex technical issues. You will enjoy building positive relationships and your exceptional problem solving skills will be what makes you stand out from the crowd. You will be tertiary qualified in planning or a related field. Previous experience in processing resource consent applications at a senior level is required. It would also be preferable if you had previous experience in Regional Council planning although this is not essential.
For appointment at the Senior Consents Planner level, candidates will already have a significant breadth and depth of at least 5 years consent planning experience. Experience in preparing for and giving evidence at consent hearings and the Environment Court is essential for consideration of this senior position.
