Legal and Risk Principal Advisor


We are looking for an experienced lawyer to advise Waikato Regional Council decision makers on a wide range of matters underpinning our mission focussed on a healthy environment, strong economy and vibrant communities. You will provide high quality support to ensure legal and regulatory obligations are met, with specific responsibilities for resource management, environment, planning, and dispute resolution processes. Strong communication skills, a flexible and proactive approach, and the ability to identify risk and solutions to complex issues will be key to success in this role. You will work across a diverse and interesting portfolio, be results driven and collaborative in your approach.

It is likely you will have 10 years PQE, with relevant experience in a well-respected legal practice and/or in-house. You will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in law and current practising certificate
  • significant experience of the Resource Management Act and local government legislation, with experience in leading or facilitating dispute resolution processes including providing support at Court hearings.
  • a track record of great stakeholder relations.
