The Organisation

The Role

As part of the technical quality assurance function of the Project Management Office, the Civil Engineer applies technical solutions to the Council’s 3 Waters and Roading infrastructure projects.  The Civil Engineer also assists with developing works programmes for the Annual Plan & Long Term Plan through investigations and business case scoping, and manages the scoping of capital projects in the Queenstown Lakes District in accordance with the Better Business Case process, approved budgets and project objectives.

This role has been specifically created in response to the workload associated with QLDC’s capital works programme, approved as part of an ambitious and extensive 10 year Long Term Plan.

About You

The successful candidate will have strong technical, analytical, verbal and reporting skills.  Knowledge and experience with the application of project management methodologies (e.g. PMBOK, Prince2), demonstrated negotiation skills and well-developed commercial skills will be essential for delivering world-class outcomes in this role with the scope to innovate.  

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Dip Engineering, Certificate of Engineering
  • 5 years’ minimum relevant experience within infrastructure planning  and project delivery
  • Well-developed people and communications skills and a strong customer ethos
  • Practical experience - risk identification,  mitigation, infrastructure planning, design overview & management
