Biodiversity Advisor, Fixed Term


Fixed Term Full Time

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Biodiversity Advisor to join the Strategy & Advice Team of our Biodiversity Department. This role is fixed term until the end of 2018 covering an internal secondment.

The role of the Biodiversity department is to help the people of the Wellington region to cherish and protect our special natural environment.

In this position you will be providing advice and input into statutory planning processes and contribute to the development of internal procedures and systems. You will also help with implementing the department’s advocacy programme. You may assist with collaborative projects involving various stakeholders, including iwi and community.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in planning, environmental law, resource management, ecology or related science and relevant experience in local government or a related field

  • Knowledge of ecological processes and principles, and key environmental issues of the region

  • Understanding of resource management and related legislation

  • Experience in strategic planning, reporting on outcomes and developing systems and procedures

  • Effective communication skills – particularly listening, writing, presenting and networking with diverse groups and individuals

  • To be a big picture thinker that operates strategically with a solution-focused attitude
